The Wigs Cellar turns Speakeasy!

Ross and Luke Smith welcome you to Melbourne's newest bar

The Wigs Cellar turns Speakeasy!

The Wigs Tasting Studio at 172 Queen Street will launch with an instore Prosecco tasting on Wednesday the 24th of February 2021. Health restrictions apply to numbers so please RSVP asap to orders@thewigscellar.com.au or call (03) 9670 2753.

The Wigs Cellar, Melbourne’s oldest bottle shop, are now serving up gin, whisky, wine and other delights by the glass! Specialising in esoterica, independent vineyards and micro-distillers, no one is more qualified to curate one of the largest spirit collections in Australia, than Wigs Cellar owner, Ross and qualified spirits specialist Luke.

Having been in and around the industry for many years, father and son duo, Luke and Ross Smith know all about booze.

Standing right in the middle of Queen Street, the store is jam-packed with over 300 different gins and 500 whiskies.  Expressions such as ‘I’ll be back for the other one,’ and ‘You’ll go broke trying everything in here,’ are common reactions from first-time customers always amazed by both the range and knowledge available.

The Wigs Cellar had hosted regular in store product tastings until the COVID-19 office closures moved these events online.  Seeing the need for people to meet, learn and talk about wine and spirits, The Wigs Cellar crew decided to seek out a general licence at a time when most inner city bars are struggling.

Trading since 1892, The Wigs Cellar has survived wars, financial crises and now a pandemic, continuing to thrive when many independent retailers have closed up shop.  Despite this history, The Wigs Cellar remains one of the better kept secrets by bartenders, collectors and other experts in the spirits industry.

Owner Ross Smith, attributes The Wigs Cellar’s success to a recession-proof business:

‘When things are bad, people drink; when things are great, people drink. The only difference is what they’re drinking.’
